U.K. BEST-SELLERS FOR THE FIRST HALF

New releases from Dua Lipa, Joel Corry, Eminem and J Hus are in the Top 10s of the best-selling singles and albums in the U.K. for the first half of 2020. Warner has the most entries on the singles chart while Universal wins with albums.

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (Island) is the #1 selling single with 1.46m sales, while Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent (EMI) is top of albums on 304,000 sales so far this year.

With Tones & I, Lipa, Roddy Ricch, Stormzy/Ed Sheeran/Burna Boy, and Corry, Warner counts five entries on singles. British DJ/producer Corry has the biggest new release of the year so far with “Lonely” (Atlantic) at #10, which is the second single to have arrived in 2020 on the list alongside Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” (Warner Records). Universal has three entries in singles with The Weeknd and Lewis Capaldi while Sony counts two with SAINt JHN and Doja Cat.

Universal has five albums in the Top 10—Capaldi, Billie Eilish, Eminem, Elton John and Queen — the last two of which are among a number of greatest hits albums to have seen a sales resurgence as the British public returns to classic favorites in lockdown.

Warner has three albums on the list with Stormzy, Sheeran and Lipa, while Sony has two with Harry Styles and J Hus. There are three 2020 releases in the albums Top 10 from Eminem, Lipa and J Hus.

All in all, five U.K. releases make the singles best-sellers while six British artists feature in the albums list.
