MUSIC OF THE MOMENT

Lil Baby
captures the current Black Lives Matter movement and protests sweeping the streets of the nation for the last two weeks with his visual for "The Bigger Picture." While having the #1 album in the nation, Lil Baby dropped a new track that speaks to his generation—currently experiencing their first groundbreaking human rights movement—and captures the spirit of black youth attempting to change the narrative and corrupt system. It's currently the #1 song at Apple Music.

The latest single from the QC/Motown/Capitol star is accompanied by raw footage of Baby at ground zero of BLM protests, while his new anthem boasts the chorus:

It’s bigger than Black and White
It’s a problem with the whole way of life
It can’t change overnight
But we gotta start some where
Might as well gone ‘head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I’m goin make it count while I’m here
God is the only man I fear

Def Jam's YG also took action in response to George Floyd's death by organizing a massive protest in Hollywood last week. His new track "FTP" was released just ahead of the Hollywood protest. YG teamed up with BLM to rally 50k people for the peaceful demonstration, which was LA's largest protest yet.

SCMG/Interscope's DaBaby revisited the #1 song in the U.S. with a "Black Lives Matter Remix" for "ROCKSTAR." He added a blistering intro to the smash detailing his past encounters with police.

Iconic protest rock anthem "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine has had a resurgence during the recent wave of protests, as many are returning to Zack de la Rocha's refrain "Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses." The band and track trended on Twitter during the first week of June and Spotify added the song to its most recent New Music Friday playlist. "Killing in the Name" received the biggest surge in lyric searches at Genius at the end of May. The song was originally created in response to the beating of Rodney King by the LAPD in 1992.
