Apple is putting $100m into a new Racial Equity and Justice Initiative, CEO Tim Cook announced today. Apple VP of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives Lisa Jackson will head up the effort.
The initiative will focus on education, economic equality and criminal justice reform, focusing on the U.S. and then expanded worldwide. Cook says Apple will also look to hire more people of color.
“The unfinished work of racial justice and equality call us all to account,” he wrote in a tweet that was accompanied by a video. “Things must change, and Apple's committed to being a force for that change.”
