HAIM have released a new song from their forthcoming third studio album, Women in Music Pt. III (Columbia). Listen to the melancholy “I Know Alone” below.
The sister trio announced on Wednesday morning that the new date for the LP is 6/26. The album features 2019’s “Summer Girl,” “Now I’m In It” and “Hallelujah” as bonus tracks, along with previous single “The Steps.”
The siblings had just started a series of stripped-down sets at delis around the country ahead of the LP’s original April release when everything went dark. They said then that they’d decided to postpone the album to “later this summer.” But as time went on, they figured, why wait so long? So they moved the date up to the first Friday of summer.
“It feels like we’ve gotten into a little bit of the new normal with the quarantine,” Danielle Haim told the L.A. Times’ Mikael Wood. “And we really want it to be out for the summer.”
“I Know Alone” is accompanied by a video, HAIM’s first in quite some time not directed by their friend, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.
“We choreographed it with Francis, from Francis and the Lights, over Zoom, which was funny,” Alana explained. “Some of the moves are like the feeling of what it’s like to go through quarantine—there’s a dance move of swiping through your phone and putting your head on your fist and looking off into the distance.”
Danielle, Alana and Este performed the new song from their homes on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Wednesday night.
