Global Citizen and Lady Gaga announced that their One World: Together at Home event has raised nearly $128m for COVID-19 relief.
The funds were raised by donations from corporations and philanthropists to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, which was established to help countries worldwide address the coronavirus outbreak. Although the One World livestream was technically not a fundraiser in the sense of a traditional telethon, it did seek to increase awareness and inspire viewers to stand together to beat coronavirus.
By comparison, in 1985 Live Aid raised a reported £150m, some estimates were a tad lower but all were over £100m, for relief of Ethiopian famine.
