SPOTIFY REASSURES ANXIOUS PARTNERS

Spotify Co-Heads of Global Music Jeremy Erlich and Marian Dicus addressed a letter of reassurance to certain music "partners." They detail the streamery's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and inform "partners" of current business trends and action.

We understand you may have questions in order to get a better understanding of how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted consumption on our platform. The most important thing for you to know is that our commitment to your artists hasn’t changed and fans are continuing to listen to their music.

We understand that the current situation has created uncertainty for you and the artists you work with, as we all adjust to this new normal. We know that it’s far from business as usual, but we’re doing everything we can to make it feel like it is.

That’s not to say that there haven’t been some changes. We’re still in the early stages of understanding how shifts in people’s daily routines around the world are reflected in their streaming behavior, but there are a few insights that we thought you might like to know.

New Music / Catalog Split is Unchanged
At this point, listeners still consume newly released music as much as they usually do. We've also seen very little change in how users are engaging on platform with a variety of artists including emerging artists, global superstars, international acts and local favorites, or playlists and albums.

Music Genres are Preserving their Usual Share of Streams
Music soothes the soul: ambient and kids music are two genres whose share of streams are seeing an increase, but we don’t observe other meaningful changes in our listeners’ appetite for various music genres.

Listening Moves Home, Creating New Habits
Streaming consumption in the home across devices such as desktop, gaming consoles, TVs, speakers, and voice-enabled devices are growing while in-car consumption has seen a decline, as a greater share of listening moves inside. Mobile continues to be the primary platform where users listen to Spotify. Many listeners are active later at night, rather than on their habitual commuting time.

Focusing on Family and Domestic Tasks
As increased domesticity becomes the norm, we're seeing users creating playlists to cook, entertain their family and take care of their home. More often than usual, listeners search for music to exercise to, to relax to, or even to shower to.
