iHeartMedia and Fox's The iHeart Living Room Concert for America, a special broadcast event to provide entertainment relief and support for Americans to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus, has now raised $10m for Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation.
The show will be aired again on 4/6 at 9pm on Fox.
Corporate partner Procter & Gamble donated $500,000, Fox Corp. matched. YouTube, which also made a donation, will continue to screen the special through Wednesday at 10pm ET.
“Our goal from the start was to ‘do good’ at a tough time in the world,” said Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier. “And that we were able to accomplish anything of that sort is because of the amazing artists who participated in this event, our producing partners, iHeart Media, and the outpouring of support from our employees, viewers and corporate partners.”
The benefit special was broadcast commercial-free and pulled in 4.57m viewers, well above the same-day averages for the regularly scheduled Bob's Burgers and Family Guy this season.
RCA's Alicia Keys opened the show with a performance of "Underdog," which rose to #1 on the iTunes songs chart Monday and remains in the Top 5 today.
Hosted by Elton John, the televised event featured performances by Backstreet Boys, Billie Eilish, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw, Camila Cabello, Dave Grohl, H.E.R., Sam Smith and others from their own homes, filmed with their personal cellphones, cameras and audio equipment.
Elton said in opening the show, “We’re taking care of each other, looking out for each other, doing what we can during this crisis. There’s a lot of grief out there, uncertainty and fear, but let me tell you what’s going to keep us together—all the goodness that’s still happening in the world. Those doctors, nurses and scientists on the front lines—they’re living proof that most superheroes don’t wear capes.”
Viewers are encouraged to support two charitable organizations helping victims and first responders during the pandemic: Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation.
