Spotify has announced via its artists blog that it will be launching two major initiatives to provide relief for artists and other creatives whose livelihoods have been affected by the pandemic.
The Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief project will recommend verified organizations to provide financial relief to the music community. The first group of partners has been announced, including MusiCares, PRS Foundation and Help Musicians, and more partners around the globe are expected to follow. In addition to making direct donations to these orgs, the streamery will match donations made via the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief page up to a total of $10m.
In addition, the Spot will be providing tools for creators to do direct fundraising from their Spotify artist pages—either for themselves, reaching out to fans to offset losses from cancellations and other pandemic-related privation, for other artists or for worthy causes. Spotify for Artists users who want to sign up for the feature should go here so they can be notified when the tools are ready to be deployed.
On 3/24 the House of Ek joined other major DSPs in announcing it would contribute to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.
