FLIPOVER FRIDAY: NEW ARRIVALS AT iTUNES AND APPLE MUSIC

The Weeknd rules the iTunes and Apple Music charts this flipover Friday as his fourth XO/Republic studio album After Hours opens in record-breaking fashion.

With nearly 1m album pre-adds, a new record, After Hours flies easily to #1 at Apple Music in addition to topping the iTunes album chart. The clean versions are #4 at Apple and #9 at iTunes.

Six of his songs are in the Top 10 at Apple Music led by “Blinding Lights,” Alone Again” and “Heartless.” Eleven of the album’s tracks are in the Top 30.

Beyond The Weeknd, Kelsea Ballerini’s third album Kelsea (Black River) sails in at #2 followed by Adam Lambert’s Velvet (More is More/Empire) at #3.

Republic has another entry in the Top 5: The debut from Conan Gray, Kid Know, at #4.

J Balvin’s sixth solo album Colores (Universal Latin) is #5 at iTunes and #10 at Apple Music. Morrissey’s I am Not a Dog on a Chain (BMG) is leashed to #6. And at #10, we get to use the modifier “Danish black metal/dark folk” to define Myrkur and her Folkesange (Relapse).

At iTunes songs, Luke Bryan is new at #8 with “One Margarita” (Capitol Nashville). That may be the morning theme song for our quarantined staff.

There is plenty more new music charting today—even new Brian Eno music— as the country takes more steps toward isolation. Out today are Delta Rae’s The Light, Heaven Shall Burn’s Of Truth and Sacrifice (Century Media), Eliza & The Delusionals’ A State of Living in an Objective Reality (Cooking Vinyl), Gordon Lightfoot’s Solo (Warner), Jason Gray’s Disorder (Centricity), Roger Eno & Brian Eno’s Mixing Colours (Opal/Deutsche Grammophon), Tower of Power’s Step Up (Mack Avenue), Sea Wolf’s Through a Dark Wood (Dangerbird) and Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra’s tribute to Kansas Jayhawks basketball, Rock Chalk Suite (Blue Engine). It just makes you miss the NCAA, which Kansas would have either won or been knocked out in the second round.
