CAPALDI TO LAUNCH YOUTUBE'S BIRTHDAY SONG

YouTube has partnered with Capitol artist Lewis Capaldi to launch a YouTube Original show entitled Birthday Song. The new series will showcase Capaldi discovering what song was #1 the day he was born, as he sets out to create his own unique version of it. The show will launch on 3/24 on Capaldi's channel on YouTube.

Produced by Electric Robin, the series begins with Capaldi discovering that the #1 song on October 7, 1996 was "Setting Sun" by The Chemical Brothers featuring Noel Gallagher. The show follows Capaldi’s journey from initial discovery of the song, to recording and ultimately showcasing the final cover at a performance. As Capaldi crafts his version of "Setting Sun," we flash from present day back to the day of Capaldi’s birth. In doing so, we learn how he found his passion for music from his family and friends and explore his earliest influences.

BRIT Award winner and Grammy-nominated Capaldi said: “YouTube was a huge part of where it all started for me, (and it) was absolutely class to be asked to record a version of ’Setting Sun’ for my Birthday Song! I hope everyone doesn’t absolutely hate my version, and if you do please don’t tell me in the comments, my mum reads them.”

Head of YouTube Originals EMEA Luke Hyams added: “We couldn’t be happier to have worked with (Lewis) on our new Original, Birthday Song. The show is an exciting chance for his fans to learn more about Lewis, while also getting a unique window into his creative process. His reinterpretation of The Chemical Brothers' hit ‘Setting Sun’ is sure to surprise a lot of people, including the song's writer, and Lewis’ biggest fan, Noel Gallagher.”
