At a press conference Friday afternoon in Austin, city officials declared a "local disaster" and SXSW has officially been canceled due to public-health concerns connected to the Coronavirus pandemic. This marks the first time in 34 years that the festival will not take place.
Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt were among the dignitaries addressing the conference, which took place in the wake of myriad participants dropping out, including major labels and top corporate sponsors.
