DIXIE CHICKS RETURN WITH "GASLIGHTER" (UPDATE)

The Dixie Chicks' new single, "Gaslighter" (Columbia), which dropped on 3/4, has hit the #1 spot on the iTunes and Amazon digital singles charts. On iTunes, it's outselling its nearest competitor by 2-1. The cut, which is the trio's first new release since their Taking The Long Way LP in 2006, accompanied the announcement of their forthcoming full-length, also titled Gaslighter, due 5/1.

The new set was co-produced by the band (Natalie Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire) and Jack Antonoff. The confrontational official video for the single, which appears below, has so far racked up nearly 1.3m views on YouTube

The new cut shows the trio hasn't relented in its determination to speak truth to power; you'll recall that their remarks about President Dubya during the Iraq War caused all manner of tumult. The new song (which coincides with International Women's Week) plays on the term from the movie Gaslight, which tells the story of a husband trying to drive his wife insane by means of psychological undermining and manipulation. Is the gaslighting referred to here political, personal, social or all of the above? You tell us.

Back in August 2019, the Chicks collaborated on Taylor Swift's song "Soon You'll Get Better" on her Lover LP.
