CAPALDI WINS A PAIR AT THE BRIT AWARDS

Lewis Capaldi won New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Someone You Loved” at the BRIT Awards on 2/18. Billie Eilish, Stormzy and Tyler, the Creator were among the other winners.

Mabel opened the 40th iteration of the annual awards show, performing “Don’t Call Me Up.” Capaldi sang his ballad “Someone You Loved,” Harry Styles offered his slow jam “Falling” and Lizzo delivered a medley of her hits, including “Cuz I Love You,” “Truth Hurts,” “Good as Hell” and “Juice.” Then Dave performed “Black” from his Mercury Prize-winning debut album, Psychodrama.

Eilish mesmerized with the first-ever performance of her new James Bond theme, “No Time to Die,” with brother FINNEAS on keyboards and backing vocals, composer Hans Zimmer and former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, accompanied by a full orchestra. Eilish, who took home trophies for International Female Solo Artist, was moved to tears while accepting, thanking her labels, Darkroom/Interscope and Polydor.

Stormzy performed a well-received, lengthy medley of his hits. Sir Rod Stewart closed out the show, joined by an orchestra and a partial reunion of his ’70s band Faces with guitarist Ronnie Wood and drummer Kenny Jones, who performed their classic “Stay With Me.”

Host Jack Whitehall kept the show moving along with the requisite lighthearted banter.
