BLACK HISTORY MONTH PLAYLISTS: A GATHERING OF VOICES

As we prepare our Black History Month special, we offer this survey of BHM playlists and other thematically relevant content from the leading DSPs.

Spotify is diving into Black History Month with a bevy of focused playlists, including Black Girl Magic, Black Love Mixtape and Black Lives Matter, along with such popular collections as Michelle Obama’s Workout Playlist and several podcasts, interviews and spoken-word pieces.

Apple Music’s BHM anthology travels from the earliest recorded blues and gospel right up to Gary Clark Jr.’s incendiary “This Land,” which was a big winner on Grammy night.

Amazon Prime presents multiple musical offerings, including R&B, classic soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz and more.

Pandora's Fluent is specifically focused on R&B; its organizers note, "This is the first time in Pandora history that six of our curators, experts across genres including Pop, Latin, African, Reggae, Hip-hop, Caribbean and more are joining forces to create the ultimate R&B listening experience that celebrates the vibrant and universally influential genre."

Tidal Music offers an opportunity to "Celebrate Black Excellence" from Stevie Wonder to The Carters.

NPR’s Code Switch explores "the hidden heroes and buried history of black America.”
