JAY-Z, DES, TALK SOCIAL INJUSTICE IN NY TIMES

The New York Times featured Jay-Z and Roc Nation in an extensive profile on 2/1, the day before the Super Bowl, to highlight Roc Nation's partnership with the NFL, social injustice and how working with the NFL is a step in the right direction.

Jay-Z discussed first being approached by the NFL to perform on the Super Bowl Halftime Show a few years ago: he turned them and their demands down based on "principle."

Regarding criticism of Roc Nation's NFL pact following the Colin Kaepernick saga, Hov commented "We didn’t say, ‘Let’s go make some money off the N.F.L."

Jay-Z explained the influence of social injustice on his controversial decision to partner with the NFL: “As long as real people are being hurt and marginalized and losing family members, then yes, I can take a couple rounds of negative press.”

Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez was also heavily featured in the profile, which highlighted her behind-the-scenes work with clients Meek Mill, Yo Gotti and their communities to bring more awareness to social injustice.

Perez also commented on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, "Roger is amazing and we couldn’t be doing this without him. He has been so supportive of us and is critical to us making change at the N.F.L."

The Times referred to Perez as "the glue that holds the whole company together." Elaborating on Perez's role at Roc Nation, "She has a massive office on the ninth floor of Roc Nation’s office in New York, where she is the first to arrive and the last to leave as she troubleshoots for artists, negotiates shoe deals for athletes and tells basically everyone in the extended orbit what’s what."
