A GOLDEN NIGHT FOR ELTON, ROCKETMAN

Elton John and the man who portrays him in Rocketman won a couple of Golden Globes Sunday night, bolstering their chances at Oscar noms when they come out on 1/13.

John and longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin won the Best Original Song award for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” which Elton said was the first time the pair had ever won an award together. It’s true: All his Grammys are for performances, an instrumental or his work for The Lion King, written with lyricist Tim Rice. Their Lion King ballad, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” won the Globe 25 years ago.

Taron Egerton won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of John in Rocketman. Last year, Rami Malek won the Globe for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and followed it up with an Oscar win.

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood was the night’s big winner, taking home three awards, including Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy.
