Songwriter and producer Savan Kotecha, known for his collaborations with Max Martin and work with Ariana Grande, has sold a music catalog to Hipgnosis Songs Fund Ltd.
Hipgnosis has acquired 100% of Kotecha’s worldwide copyrights on 49 of his songs and includes nine new songs due for release in 2020.
“Savan is a special songwriter with a Midas touch,” said Merck Mercuriadis, Founder of The Family (Music) Ltd. and Hipgnosis Songs. “His magical songs have helped propel Ariana Grande into one of the most influential artists of her generation. This is a sensational set of songs and bear out why he’s just been voted [Music Week’s] Songwriter of the Year for 2019.”
The catalog includes four songs co-written for Grande’s Sweetener “No Tears Left to Cry,” “Breathin’” and “God Is A Woman” among them. Kotecha produced Grande’s My Everything, co-wrote “Problem,” and executive produced Dangerous Woman.
The catalog also includes Camila Cabello’s “My Oh My,” Ellie Goulding’s “Close To Me,” James Arthur’s “Naked,” Sam Smith’s “How Do You Sleep” and The Weeknd’s “Rockin.’’
“I know my ‘babies’ will be well taken care of,” Kotecha said. “Merck and his team have proven that they are true lovers of music and understand not just the monetary value of songs but the cultural value as well.”
