XO/Republic’s The Weeknd dropped two songs this week, his first solo material since 2018’s My Dear Melancholy EP. “Heartless,” which appeared Wednesday, went straight to #1 at iTunes, where it remains. “Blinding Lights,” which followed a day later, is #3. Incidentally, Republic owns the Top 3 tracks at the download emporium (Post Malone’s “Circles” is #2 at present). “Blinding Lights” is also featured in Mercedes-Benz’s new global campaign, while naming The Weeknd creative director.
The artist will take over The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on 12/5-6, and he’ll make his big screen debut in the Safdie Brothers film Uncut Gems alongside Adam Sandler, in limited release on 12/13 and nationwide on Christmas Day.
