EILISH, LIZZO LEAD GRAMMY NOMS

Billie Eilish and Lizzo led the way at the Grammy nominations Wednesday, securing nods in all Big 4 categories, the first time two artists have been nominated in all four General Field categories.

Overall, Lizzo was tops with eight noms. Eilish, who has broken a record as the youngest artist to score in all four categories in one year, and Lil Nas X were right behind her with six. All three are first-time nominees.

Securing five noms for the 62nd annual Grammy Awards each were Ariana Grande, H.E.R. and Eilish’s producer and brother, Finneas O’Connell. Beyonce, Gary Clark Jr., J. Cole, Lucky Daye, mastering engineer Bob Ludwig, Tanya Tucker, Yola and Thom Yorke received four noms apiece; 24 people received three noms, among them Taylor Swift, Brandi Carlile and Lady Gaga.

The most-nominated artists packed the lists of nominees for Record and Album of the Year: Besides Lizzo and Eilish, Lil Nas X, Grande, H.E.R. and Bon Iver, who had three noms, are up for both awards.

Lana Del Rey’s Norman F***ing Rockwell! and Vampire Weekend’s Father of the Bride flesh out the Album of the Year category; Khalid and Post Malone & Swae Lee are also in the Record of the Year competition.

Eilish and Lizzo’s competition for Best New Artist are Black Pumas, Lil Nas X, Maggie Rogers, Rosalía, Tank and the Bangas and Yola.

Lizzo’s "Truth Hurts" and Eilish’s "Bad Guy" are up for Song of the Year against Lady Gaga’s "Always Remember Us This Way," Tucker’s "Bring My Flowers Now," H.E.R.’s "Hard Place," Lewis Capaldi’s "Someone You Loved" and Taylor Swift’s "Lover."

Lizzo and Eilish will also go head-to-head in the Pop Solo Performance category where "Truth Hurts" battles “Bad Guy.” Lizzo’s other noms are for R&B Performance for "Exactly How I Feel" f/Gucci Mane, Traditional R&B Performance for "Jerome," and Urban Contemporary Album for the deluxe edition of Cuz I Love You.

Eilish’s other nomination is in the Pop Vocal Album category where When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? is up against Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift, Grande’s Thank U, Next, Swift’s Lover and No. 6 Collaborations Project by Ed Sheeran.

Outside the Big 4, Lil Nas X’s noms were spread around various fields including Pop Duo/Group Performance and Music Video for “Old Town Road” and Best Rap/Sung Performance for “Panini.”

Tucker was the only country act to secure a nom in the Big 4 categories—her “Bring My Flowers Now,” written with Brandi Carlile and Phil and Tim Hanseroth, is up for Song of the Year.

Tucker, who was last nominated in 1993 and has 10 noms without a win, is this year’s top nominee among country acts, having secured four. “Bring My Flowers Now” is also up for Country Solo Performance and Country Song, and her While I'm Livin is a nominated for Country Album.

Music released between 10/1/18 and 8/31/19 was eligible for the Grammys, which will be held 1/26 at Staples Center. Final-round voting begins 12/9 and ends 1/3.
