PREMIUM TIER

Hipgnosis boss Merck Mercuriadis is joined by producer, songwriter, artist and guitar god Nile Rodgers at the London Stock Exchange, where Hipgnosis was recently admitted to the Premium Segment of the Official List. We’re not quite sure what that means, but it sounds very grand indeed. Hipgnosis has raised more than £625m in equity capital with four fund-raising rounds, and has inked a number of splashy deals with songwriters.

“I started Hipgnosis to establish proven songs as an asset class and give the investment community access to the predictable and reliable revenues generated by these incredible songs,” reads a quote from Mercuriadis. “Songs are the currency on which the music industry trades and I’m delighted they now have an opportunity to provide excellent returns for our investors. I am also very pleased that, one step at a time, we are amassing the leverage and the support necessary to bring positive change to where the songwriter sits in the economic equation.”

Later, the two kicked Nigel Farage in the bollocks.
