U.K. CHARTS: LYNNE LANDS AT #1
11/8/19

It was going to be a showdown, but with the BBC Children in Need charity release being moved o to the compilation chart, Jeff Lynne’s ELO scores its first #1 studio album in nearly 40 years. Over on singles, Tones & I denies Dua Lipa the top spot.

Despite leading the midweek albums chart at #1, and racking up enough sales to be crowned the week’s biggest seller, Children in Need: Got It Covered (Silva Screen)—a collection of covers by an all-star cast of actors—today tops the Official Compilations Chart. The move happened after the Official Charts Company decided that the release, a various artists’ compilation, didn’t warrant inclusion in the main chart.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO’s From Out of Nowhere (RCA) is the band’s first studio album to hit the top since Time spent two weeks at the summit in 1981.

The third album from Michael Kiwanuka, Kiwanuka (Polydor), is new at #2, and south London rappers Krept & Konan are the third highest new entry with Revenge is Sweet (Virgin EMI) at #5.
