MILES MOVES DOWNTOWN
10/28/19

Downtown Music Publishing has signed a long-term agreement with the Miles Davis Estate to represent Davis’ entire songbook globally.

Downtown will handle catalog marketing, licensing, and royalty collection plus collaborate with the estate on a range of events and special projects that highlight his compositions and musicianship as well as his contributions as a cultural and style icon.

“Miles Davis made an indelible mark on both popular music and culture,” said Justin Kalifowitz, CEO of Downtown Music Holdings and Downtown Music Publishing. “Through his exploration and expansion of the language of jazz, Miles pushed the boundaries of genre and influenced generations of artists across the musical spectrum.”

Davis collection of more than 250 compositions includes such jazz standards as “So What,” “All Blues,” “Milestones” and “Bitches Brew.” The announcement follows the recent London premiere of the documentary Miles Davis: Birth of Cool.

The estate’s Cheryl Davis, Erin Davis and Vince Wilburn Jr. said “We are confident this move will continue to introduce the musical genius of Miles on a global scale, where his artistry can be noted by many generations to come.”
