APPLE MUSIC TEAMS WITH IVORS ACADEMY

Apple Music has pledged support for the songwriting community by teaming up with The Ivors Academy in the U.K. to help celebrate rising talent and broadcast content from the annual awards ceremony.

As part of the three-year deal, Apple will sponsor a Rising Star Award at The Ivor Novellos that will honour young British or Irish songwriters and composers who demonstrate exceptional potential and ambition. In addition to the award, the winner will receive support and mentorship from the Apple Music team, who are also going to create a new series of educational workshops and events for The Ivors Academy members.

Content from the event will be broadcast across Apple Music, including Beats 1.

“2020 marks the 65th year that the Academy has presented Ivor Novello Awards and this new relationship with Apple Music marks an exciting evolution for us,” Ivors Academy CEO Graham Davies said.

Crispin Hunt, Songwriter and Chair of The Ivors Academy, added: “Apple Music have demonstrated their knowledge, resources and a commitment to paying music creators over many years, and are a fantastic addition to the support The Ivos Academy."

Past Ivor Novello Award recipients include Kate Bush, Stormzy, PJ Harvey, Sir Elton John, Brian Eno and Amy Winehouse. The Ivors 2020 will take place on 5/21 at the Grosvenor House in London.
