Neil Young’s documentary on the making of his umpteenth album, Colorado, will play tonight in theaters for one-night-only screenings across the country. Warner will release the album on Friday.
Young recorded the album with the Crazy Horse rhythm section of Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina and the guitarist/pianist Nils Lofgren at the Studio in the Clouds near Telluride. (Studio owners better hope Neil and his team don't leave Yelp reviews.)
The film is 86 minutes, mostly shot in the studio as Young deals with the mountain air, unacceptable monitors and the lack of volume in the main space. Amid songs heavy on references to nature and. the mistreatment of the Earth, there is a lot of impressive guitar playing.
Young directed the film under his nom de film Bernard Shakey that, in L.A., screens at the Arclight.
