The final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones was showered with a dozen Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, at Sunday’s 71st Emmy Awards. The cabler’s Chernobyl, winner of Outstanding Limited Series, and Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were the night’s other big winners.
Prime’s Fleabag won the Outstanding Comedy Series trophy plus five other awards; Last Night With John Oliver was the Variety Talk Series winner and Saturday Night Live was honored as Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.
Between last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys and Sunday’s presentation, HBO received 34 Emmys, Netflix had 27 and Amazon Prime took home 15.
Billy Porter, who stars in FX’s Pose as Pray Tell, added an Emmy to an awards shelf that already includes a Tony and Grammy for his work in Kinky Boots. He became the first openly gay man to win the Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama.
Plus, he delivered one of the night’s most inspiring speeches.
