Taylor Swift took over the final half-hour of ABC’s GMA on 8/22, performing three songs at SummerStage and talking about fan support, re-recording her early albums and the new song that she is most excited about. The Capital One-sponsored appearance was preceded by a dazzling barrage of promos, teaser spots, bumpers and more; the screams of the fans in attendance punctuated her every utterance.
Swift performed “You Need to Calm Down,” “Lover” and “Shake It Off” flanked by four backup singer/dancers on a set emblazoned in hues of pink.
She announced that she will be opening 8/26's MTV VMAs without mentioning which song from her new Republic set she'll perform. She added that she took pride in having written the treatments for the videos for “ME!” and “Calm Down.” It’s “Lover," though, that is most special to her.
“Every lyric in the song ‘Lover’ I’m really proud of,” she told GMA’s Robin Roberts. “[It’s a] cozy, warm blanket for me. Of the things people have heard so far, [that’s the one] I’m most proud of.”
And, she noted, she'll be busy re-recording albums one through five beginning in November 2020. Check out the interview and a performance snippet below.
