The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Disney's The Lion King spent another weekend at #1 in the U.S., tacking on another $75.5m, while the film globally prepares to pass the $1b mark. While this is strong, it signifies a greater dip than expected, dropping more than 60% in week two. Stateside, the domestic total is hovering around $351m.

The weekend's biggest bow, however, came from Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood (Sony), which debuted at #2 with more than $40m. The latter marks the famed director's largest three-day debut to date; 2009's Inglourious Basterds opened with $38m. It's got an 85% at Rotten Tomatoes and the Columbia-released soundtrack sits at #3 at iTunes.
