 BRITISH BEST-SELLERS AT THE HALF

Quite astonishingly, the U.K.'s biggest-selling album of 2019 so far is The Greatest Showman ST (Atlantic), which was, of course, released at the end of 2017. Lewis Capaldi (pictured here) takes second place with his debut and has the biggest-selling single.

The Greatest Showman album has so far shifted 381k combined sales in Blighty this year. It was #1 on the best-sellers list this time in 2018, and ended the year in the same position.

Four albums released in 2019 appear on the Official Charts Company’s Top 10 YTD list; Capaldi (Virgin EMI) on 229k combined sales, Ariana Grande with thank u, next (Island) at #4 on 226k, Billie Eilish’s debut When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go (Polydor) at #6 on 200k and Tom Walker's debut, What a Time to be Alive (Relentless) at #8 with 167k. With two British acts on that list, the U.K. is in a better position when compared to the end of 2018, when George Ezra was the only British artist with an album released last year to make the Top 10.

Alongside Capaldi and Walker, Dave is the third new British debut in the Top 20 with Psychodrama (NBR) at #16. In the Top 10, UMG has five entries, Warner has three and Sony has two. View the full list here.

On the Official Singles best-sellers YTD tally, Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” is #1 on a huge 1.34m combined sales. Calvin Harris’ “Giant” f/Rag’n’Bone Man (Columbia) is the year’s second biggest song so far on 970k. Ava Max follows at #3 with “Sweet But Psycho” (Atlantic), “Old Town Road” (Columbia) by Lil Nas X is at #4 and Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” takes fifth place.

There's a few more British entries in the Top 10: Mabel with “Don't Call Me Up” (Polydor) at #6, Sam Smith & Normani with “Dancing With a Stranger” (Capitol) at #8 and George Ezra and “Shotgun” (Columbia) at #10. Universal has six singles in the Top 10, Sony follows with three and Warner has one. You'll find the Top 40 here.

In the meantime, we understand you Yanks are having some sort of holiday involving pyrotechnics and something called coleslaw.
