ASCAP HONORS MOTOWN
At this week's 34th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, legendary ASCAP member and founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy Jr., and current Motown President Ethiopia Habtemariam each accepted ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Awards on behalf of the storied label.
ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams and renowned songwriter Valerie Simpson took the stage to honor Gordy, while Williams and Quality Control CEOs Coach K and P co-presented to Habtemariam.
The accolade applauds ASCAP members who've had a major impact on the legacy of rhythm and soul music. Motown—now celebrating its 60th anniversary—serves as home to urban hitmakers like Migos, City Girls and Lil Yachty, and stands tall as the foundation for musical icons like Diana Ross & The Supremes, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.
Meanwhile, the HITS offices remain home to cockroaches, mice and cockamice.
