BLACK MUSIC MONTH PLAYLISTS: DIVE IN

Your eyes are not deceiving you: That is indeed the visage of Motown chief Ethiopia Habtemariam, whose Apple Music playlist is one of many now available on streaming services to help listeners explore during Black Music Month. E's rundown of label classics and current offerings is one of five Motown-centric playlists now hosted on the service (which also include selections from Vince Staples and BJ the Chicago Kid). There's also a 98-song Evolution of Black Music set, among others.

Over at Spotify, the slogan is "Black History Is Now," with an array of playlists including Black History Salute, The Birth of Rhythm & Blues, Original Rock N' Roll, Disco Fever and actor/writer/producer/comic Lena Waithe's Black Girl Magic.

Amazon Music has a fleet of selections under the Black History Month of Prime Music banner, focused on hip-hop, classic soul, multiple flavors of R&B and more.

Tidal is taking its curatorial responsibility seriously, presenting not only this BHM playlist but also "Tracks & Traces" lists celebrating Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, punk legend Poly Styrene and more.

Pandora is serving up Old School Rap, 2000s Hip-Hop, Today's Afrobeats and its own Motown Radio, among other options.

We'll be serving up our own playlists to accompany the forthcoming special; stay tuned. In the meantime, dive in.
