NOISEMAKERS: RAISING THE HEAT

In the latest roundup of Noisemakers for 2019, we present a new batch of rising professionals from different parts of the biz whose dedication and effort make their superiors look good.

This week's entrants will also find their faces in our most-recent mag. And if they don't care about that (...because, why should they?), we're told the pages make for excellent freezer paper when handling leftover Memorial Day meats.

Brian Vinikoor

VP, Marketing, Arista Records

Despite all the sold-out shows and hit records twenty one pilots racked up when he worked with them at mtheory, Vinikoor’s most inspirational moment occurred when he came across two young siblings playing nothing but pilots songs while busking in Washington Square Park. Now, nine months into relaunching Arista, the invigorated exec, who owes his career to Guy Patterson, is thrilled about new music from Dennis Lloyd, Digital Farm Animals and Becky G. He’s also preparing to launch the career of Julian Lamadrid—whom he calls one of the most talented artists he’s worked with.

Veronica Sanjines

Senior Director, Marketing, Warner Bros. Records

Sanjines is over the moon for new projects from artists she’s adored for a decade, starting with Tegan and Sara and Liam Gallagher, while she names Carlie Hanson, Patrick Droney and Carlos Vara as exciting additions to her growing roster. While at Astralwerks, the Bethesda, Md., native cherished working with Halsey, whom she considers a dream artist, from the time of her signing through her first two albums and stratospheric rise. Oh, and she’s played Jane’s Addiction’s “Stop” on Guitar Hero’s expert mode for Perry Farrell.

Robert Mickelson

Music Crossover Agent, CAA

Mickelson recalls the exact moment he knew he wanted to be an agent—when blink-182 brought their agent, Darryl Eaton, onstage during a raucous show he attended. Mickelson and Eaton now jointly represent drummer Travis Barker. As an agent, he was proud to see Logic perform in front of 12k screaming fans at a sold-out Forum show in L.A. Lately, he’s been working with Tyson Ritter—frontman of multi-platinum rock band The All-American Rejects. Ritter’s also had significant roles on Amazon’s Betas, NBC’s Parenthood, AMC’s Lodge 49 and, perhaps most notably AMC’s Preacher.

Liz Cost

Associate Director, Marketing/Artist Team Lead, Sony Music Nashville

After working her way through various music biz roles over the last nine years, Cost says she’s officially found her dream job. She considers her experiences with Maren Morris—who just celebrated a successful sophomore debut with GIRL—especially rewarding, noting the songstress’ trailblazing efforts and multi-genre appeal. While others may not agree, Cost swears she’s a really talented karaoke singer and backup dancer. We’d love to hear and witness her rendition of “The Bones” after four or five whiskey cocktails.

Chris McKay

Associate Director of Tour Marketing, Island Records

This baseball fanatic, who plans to visit every MLB ballpark by 2020, manages all the label’s needs when it comes to tours. The U.S. leg of Shawn Mendes’ world tour, which kicks off this summer, will be the pop star’s biggest yet, and McKay is stoked for that live-show experience. But he loves working with all the “amazing” Island artists, including Elton John, Tove Lo, Bishop Briggs and Jessie Reyez. He still relishes the moment he met The Killers—one of his all-time favorite bands—when they performed “Runaways” on Letterman back in 2012.

Jaclyn Soto

Senior Director, Marketing, Def Jam Recordings

An expert swimmer, Soto was happily splashing around the pool before the age of one. Years later, Toni Braxton thanked her in a Legend Award acceptance speech at the 2017 Soul Train Music Awards. We’re not sure which is more impressive, but it’s clear that she’s cooler than anyone in our offices. The N.Y. native, who’s now focused on new YG album 4REAL 4REAL, played a big role in the March release of 2 Chainz’s Rap or Go to the League. She’s also setting up for new music from Big Sean, Jhené Aiko and Bibi Bourelly.

Marisa DiFrisco

National Director of Alternative/Rock Promotion, Caroline

Working on Judah & the Lion’s current single, “Why Did You Run?”—and their newly released album Pep Talks, which dropped 5/3—has been keeping DiFrisco busy. The radio hotshot also enjoyed helping SHAED’s “Trampoline” go from “that song from the Apple commercial” to #2 on the Alternative chart. We wouldn’t question her alt/rock knowledge, nor would we challenge her to a dance-off, considering she nearly pursued a career as a professional hip-hop dancer. We suspect that athletic background comes in handy while trying to keep up with Jacqueline Saturn’s schedule.

Marissa Loil

Music Agent, UTA

Loil was instrumental in booking over 200 dates and 100 major festival plays last year. DROELOE followed successful fall 2018 tours with respective headline jaunts this spring, while ARMNHMR and INZO landed spots on Adventure Club’s spring 2019 tour. Other clients include Running Touch and Kaivon. Loil, who’s been kicking ass since her competitive skating days, works closely with Co-Head of Electronic Music Steve Gordon on San Holo and Ghastly. Her client TASKA BLACK recently supported San Holo on his album 1 tour.
