BIG NIGHT FOR BANDIER, SONY/ATV AT BMI POP AWARDS

Sony/ATV, with 28 of the year’s most-performed songs, was once again named Publisher of the Year at the 67th Annual BMI Pop Awards, which took place Tuesday night at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. It was both a proud and bittersweet moment for Marty Bandier, the first exec to be named a BMI Icon, who’d led the pubco for more than a decade before stepping down earlier this year.

“Just as BMI backed me and believed in me at the start of my career, I hope that I have offered the same support and mentorship to those with whom I’ve worked with along the way,” Bandier said from the dais.

New Sony/ATV leader Jon Platt accepted the Publisher of the Year Award.

BMI Pop Song of the Year went to Bebe Rexha, Joshua Miller and Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard for their crossover hit “Meant to Be.” There was a four-way tie for Songwriter of the Year between Adam “Frank Dukes” Feeney, Taylor Swift, Ali Tamposi and Andrew Watt, each of whom penned four of the year’s most-performed songs.

Sting was honored for “Every Breath You Take,” BMI's Most Performed Song, while Imagine Dragons received the BMI President’s Award.
