With the arrival of "ME!" f/Brendon Urie, Republic's Taylor Swift has once again topped nearly every chart possible. After its first day in the market, the track was #1 at iTunes, Spotify Global and U.S and #2 at Apple Music.
At Spotify, "ME!" tallied 7.9m streams worldwide, with 3.6m coming from the U.S. in day one. Labelmate Ariana Grande holds the closest comparison with her recent smash "7 rings." Grande's track debuted with 8.6m WW and 3.8m domestically. J. Cole's "Middle Child" (Dreamville/Interscope) had the second largest debut for a single this year on Spotify U.S. with 3.7m.
On Monday morning, the track remains #1 at iTunes and Spotify U.S., #2 at Spotify Global and #4 at Apple Music.
Judging by opening-day streams, Swift's latest single is looking at a first week streaming total of 30m+. 2017's "Look What You Made Me Do," Swift's debut single from reputation, had nearly identical first day streaming numbers, earning 3.8m on Spotify U.S. and 7.9m Global.
At Apple Music, Swift's first-day chart position varied by territory. "ME!" peaked at #2 for the Global and U.S. charts, and in Canada and Australia it debuted at #3, while charting at #8 in the U.K.
A first-week total of over 30m would put Taylor in the top 10 for debut streaming weeks in 2019. Viral sensation Lil Nas X holds the top two streaming weeks of the year so far, with "Old Town Road" (Columbia) earning a record-setting 80m+ streams at the top, followed by 63m. Grande's "7 rings" had the third largest streaming week with 54m.
Since Swift's last album cycle, teen phenom Billie Eilish has risen to rule the global pop market. The streaming sensation also owns a top 10 streaming week and as of this morning took the top spot back from Swift at Spotify Global, with "bad guy" (Darkroom/Interscope) returning to #1.
In sales, "ME!" notched 67k in day one. While that number pales in comparison to LWYMMD's debut of 252k in 2017, Taylor still towers over peers when it comes to song transactions—Grande's "7 rings" debuted with 38k and Jonas Brothers' "Sucker" earned 43k in its first 24 hours.
As savvy as they come, you can count on Taylor to have plenty of action lined up this week. Along with daily, exclusive merch bundles, look for Swift to hit traditional media with more high-profile TV appearances—including opening the BBMAs with a performance of "ME!" with Urie—and, of course, radio.
