Bruce Springsteen’s first new studio album in five years, Western Stars (Columbia), will be released 6/14.
For this solo record, Springsteen drew inspiration in part from the Southern California pop records of the late '60s and early '70s. He recorded it primarily at his home studio in New Jersey.
“This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character-driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements," Springsteen said. "It's a jewel box of a record."
Ron Aniello produced the album with Springsteen and plays bass, keyboard, and other instruments. Patti Scialfa sings and contributes vocal arrangements on four tracks. Jon Brion plays celeste, Moog and Farfisa; the album includes guest appearances by former E Steet Band member David Sancious and Springsteen collaborators Charlie Giordano and Soozie Tyrell.
Check out lead single "Hello Sunshine," which evokes memories of Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb.
Any resemblance between the equine artwork of Western Stars and "Old Town Road" is purely coincidental.
