HIPGNOSIS SNAPS UP STARRAH

Hipgnosis Songs has acquired yet another star-studded catalog, buying 76 songs from Brittany Hazzard, aka Starrah. It includes her share of #1 hits by Camilla Cabello and Maroon 5, and songs recorded by Calvin Harris, Travis Scott, Rihanna and Drake.

The catalog features “Havana” by Cabello and Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” plus 12 other U.S. Top 20 singles. The deal includes five songs on Harris’ U.K. #2 album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, including U.K. #1 “Feels” f/Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry &Big Sean, and three songs on Scott’s U.S. #1 album, Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, including 2x platinum single “Pick Up The Phone” f/Young Thug and Quavo. Those tracks are joined by Rihanna's “Needed Me,” Drake’s “Fake Love,” Halsey’s “Now or Never,” and Nicki Minaj's “No Frauds.”

As part of the deal, which doesn’t include future works (like the prior publisher's share of her hits, these reside with Pulse), Starrah will take a seat on the Hipgnosis Advisory Board.

Merck Mercuriadis, Founder of The Family (Music) Ltd. and Hipgnosis Songs Fund Ltd., said: “Starrah is at the forefront of today’s song writing revolution. She is taking pop artistry to new heights of success, as evidenced by the exquisite ‘Havana’ which is already an evergreen hit and ‘Girls Like You’ the longest charting #1 radio song of the century. I’m delighted to welcome her and her manager Nick Jarjour to the Hipgnosis Family.”

Named ASCAP Pop Songwriter of the Year in April 2018,Starrah noted: “The songwriter community is often overlooked and undervalued so I am thrilled to do this prestigious deal with Merck that sets a new precedent for songwriters and producers.”

Jarjour added: “Merck is a visionary and this legendary deal is a fresh approach to empowering Starrah, this generation’s legacy hitmaker. I am pleased to join the advisory board and looking forward to all the new opportunities to come.”
