Columbia’s Lil Nas X, who graces the cover of our New & Developing Aritsts/Music Biz 2019 special print edition, has conquered the world with his country trap phenomenon “Old Town Road,” smashing streaming records in both original and remix form. It’s the first outta-here smash for the Ron Perry regime. Even so, Nas and team probably consider our sorry rag a “Road” to nowhere.

Contents page VIP Deborah Dugan has been chosen to helm the Recording Academy, launching a new era for Grammy. Dugan is exceptionally accomplished and has earned plenty of laurels. But her HITS Contents shout-out is one award she may wish to decline.
