New execs take over at two of the three major publishers this week, as Jon Platt takes over for exiting Marty Bandier at Sony/ATV and Guy Moot (joining Co-Chair/COO Carianne Marshall) takes over for Platt at Warner/Chappell.
Platt will divide his time equally between L.A. and NYC for the foreseeable future; as he builds his team at SATV, wonderers are wondering who will succeed Moot in running the pubbery’s U.K. office. For his part, Moot is spending his first week at W/C’s London digs, after which he’ll begin an extended stay in La-La Land as he kicks off his bi-continental tenure.
Meanwhile, Bandier is working with an investment giant to arrange the funding of a big new independent venture, which will give Mr. Cohiba a sizable war chest to go after both pub and master catalogs in addition to signing new talent. The investment giant has its fingers in countless media pies; the co-founder/co-CEO is believed to have wrapped his arms around making this deal for Marty’s newco. What former Bandier employees and/or team members are said to be joining Bandier in his new venture?
There’s some talk that Marty isn’t leaving SATV as the happiest camper, given that his succession plan (which would have extended his term) was rejected by Tokyo and he felt blindsided by the anointing of Platt as his successor.
But since he exits with half of the estimated $180-200m management incentive package that accompanied Sony’s acquisition of EMI Music Pub, he has about 100 million reasons to be cheerful. The rest of that windfall was said to have been shared by a dozen or so execs, including EVP/CFO Joe Puzio, who insiders say has left the company. One of Platt's first moves was taking care of those who didn’t initially get in on the bonus incentive plan, to their surprise and delight.
Marty was spotted with Co-President Danny Strick at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame shindig on Friday night, taking a final victory lap and carousing at the table of heavies Irving Azoff, Jimmy Iovine and Doug Morris—all of whom were there to celebrate the induction of Stevie Nicks.
