SPOTIFY ADDS ANOTHER PODCAST

Spotify continues its dive into the world of podcasting, acquiring the company behind Serial Killers and Unsolved Murders, Parcast. It’s the third podcast company Daniel Ek & company have bought this year.

Parcast started in 2016 and has launched 18 premium podcast series that cover mystery, crime, science fiction and history. Parcast expects to launch more than 20 new shows this year.

Dawn Ostroff, Spotify’s Chief Content Officer, said, “Crime and mystery podcasts are a top genre for our users and Parcast has had significant success creating hit series while building a loyal and growing fan base.”

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2019. No price was given but in February, Ek said the company intends to spend $500m on podcast companies.

“Alongside Spotify, our ability to scale, grow and amplify the unique and tailored brand of content we create is full of fantastic possibilities,” said Parcast Founder and President Max Cutler.

And mom always said crime doesn’t pay. She obviously didn’t have a podcast.
