Woodstock 50 has announced its full lineup. We'd already informed you about the headliners for the August musicfest at Watkins Glen, N.Y., but it's fascinating to peruse the entire list and see contemporary acts (The Raconteurs, The Lumineers, Margo Price, Flora Cash) cheek-by-jowl with artists who performed at Woodstock '69. In addition to Santana and surviving members of The Grateful Dead, you've got John Sebastian, Melanie, David Crosby, Country Joe McDonald, Canned Heat, Hot Tuna and other '60s stalwarts including John Fogerty, Robert Plant's band and The Zombies.
Tickets will be available starting on 4/22. That's Earth Day, man. Email [email protected] to receive updates. Expect stuff for kids (and grandkids, and great-grandkids), crafts and other enterprises that both evoke the original festival and bring it into sharp relief. Nonprofits due to benefit from Woodstock include Conservation International, Dolphin Project, Miley Cyrus' Happy Hippie Foundation, March for Our Lives, HeadCount, Seva Foundation and more.
"We’ve lined up artists who won’t just entertain but will remind the world that music has the power to bring people together, to heal, to move us to action and to tell the stories of a generation,” proclaimed Woodstock originator/producer Michael Lang. "Our hope is that today, just as in 1969, music will be the constant that can inspire positive change. Only this time with an array of corporate sponsors." [No, he didn't say that last part; please don't email us.]
What will fans make of this multi-generational melange? Can the festival attract admirers of the original three-day confab and younger musicheads alike? What kinds of acid will be available? Check the story links below for more on the festival.
