Gene "Bean'' Baxter will be leaving the KROQ-FM morning job he has had for nearly 30 years at the end of 2019.
Bean, who has worked with Kevin Ryder in the AM slot since January 1990, tweeted that he will be heading home to England and that his departure is eight to 10 months away. He is declining interview requests to discuss his run as one of the longest in L.A. radio history.
“It's time for my wife, Donna, and me to move on to new adventures on a new continent,'' Baxter said in a statement. "We are moving back to my homeland, England. I am a British citizen ... and have spent many vacations there over the years and it always feels like home."
Bean said he hopes to land a radio job in England. Baxter has been doing the show remotely from New Orleans and, prior to that, Seattle, since leaving Los Angeles in the late 1990s.
Headed to bed. Such a long, emotional day filled with so much love from you. I’m humbled, sincerely. In case you missed the announcement on @KevinAndBean this morning: https://t.co/2Lo8lehMP8
