BRITs British Breakthrough winner Tom Walker could be the first artist to enter straight in at #1 in the U.K. with a debut album in nearly two years. What a Time to be Alive (Relentless) is sitting at the top of the midweek Official Albums Chart on 25k combined sales so far. Over on singles, The Jonas Brothers have the highest new entry.
Sixty-four percent of Walker’s sales are physical. Should it hold onto its midweek lead, Walker will be the first act to chart at #1 with a debut album since Harry Styles hit the top in May 2017. Stormzy was the last new act with no prior recordings to debut at the top; he did it in March 2017.
What a Time to be Alive leads an all new Top 3 today, which includes Bryan Adams with Shine a Light (Polydor) at #2 and Hozier with his second album, Wasteland, Baby! (Island), at #3. One more album is on track to secure a Top 10 placing by Friday: Heathers the Musical (Original West End Cast Recording) (Ghostlight) lands at #10.
Just outside the Top 10, While She Sleeps are at #11 with So What (Spinefarm), and Solange’s When I Get Home (RCA) is close behind at #13.
Irish crooner Daniel O’Donnell is at #14 with The Gold Collection (DMG TV), Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers retrospective The Best of Everything (UMG) sits at #15, and Sundara Karma’s Ulfilas’ Alphabet (RCA) is #19.
On the Official Singles midweeks, Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man are battling for #1 with Lewis Capaldi. “Giant” (Columbia) is currently ahead by fewer than 500 combined sales, thanks in part to a lead on downloads, while “Someone You Loved” (Virgin EMI) is ahead on streams at #2.
Mabel’s “Don’t Call Me Up” (Polydor) has moved up two places to #3, while Ariana Grande moves down to #4 and #5 with “Break Up With Your Girlfriend” (Island) and “7 Rings” respectively.
The Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker” (Polydor) could claim this week’s highest new entry at #7, while Walker’s “Just You And I” is set to climb two places to #8 following his album release.
