SUPER BOWL TV AUDIENCE UNDER 100M (UPDATE)

The lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history is the first NFL championship gamein a decade to have an audience of fewer than 100m viewers.

The CBS broadcast of Patriots 13-3 victory over the Rams was seen by 87.72m viewers, a significant drop from last year’s broadcast seen by 103.4m viewers.

CBS Sports, however, wants to count the viewers who watched on CBS, CBS Interactive and the digital properties of the NFL and Verizon Media. That gets the viewer total to 100.7m people tuning in.

No word yet on how people watched Maroon5’s halftime show.

The last time fewer than 100m fans tuned in was the 2009 game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals.
