CHART STORY:
SUCCESS IS
IN THEIR DNA

RCA’s Backstreet Boys have debuted at #1 on the HITS Top 50 Chart, moving 236k+ with their ninth studio album—and first in six years—DNA.

Team Nipper's Edge, Riccitelli and Fleckenstein are singing close harmony (much as they did on the album campaign) and Ron Laffitte is doing some joyous choreography as you read this.

The only other bow to make the Top 15 belongs to Columbia’s Bring Me the Horizon, whose amo lands at #14 with approximately 27k.

Weezer’s Weezer (Teal Album) (Crush Music) enjoys a crazy-big bump this week, actually marking its first full week. The album, which dropped by surprise on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning, originally debuted on the chart last week, after just one day of reporting. It consequently travels #29-4, tacking on 40k. Further down, a similar move is made by XXXTentacion’s XXXTentacion Presents: Members Only, Vol. 4 (Bad Vibes Forever/Empire), which was also only available for about a day the prior week; that goes #38-15 with 27k.

And as Oscar and Grammy buzz grows, Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born Soundtrack (Interscope) jumps #10-5 with nearly 40k.

When it comes to marketshare, SME and UMG tie at #1 with 33% each, WMG follows with 26% and the indies claim 8%.

This is a pretty slow week as far as new releases go. Streeting the following week, however, are Ariana Grande’s thank u, next (Republic) and Michael Bolton’s A Symphony of Hits (eOne). No word yet on when the Ari X Bolton collaborative set is coming, but we’re sure their mash-up of “thank, u next” and “When a Man Loves a Woman” will unite the generations.
