David Hazan, a former exec at Universal Classics Group and Putumayo World Music, will be heading up Midem’s North American business.
Based in the Reed MIDEM offices in New York, he will report to Midem Director Alexandre Deniot. The Midem conference takes place in Cannes, France, 6/4-7.
Hazan, a drummer from Montreal, has most recently provided strategic and consulting services to more than two dozen tech, festival and media clients around the world.
Deniot said Hazan “brings a strong blend of operating and strategic skills to Midem. His extensive and varied experience in the music industry together, with his passion for music, makes him the ideal person to develop Midem’s outreach in North America and ensure that the region has the representation it deserves at Midem in Cannes.”
Hazan was previously SVP of Marketing at Putumayo and Universal Classics Group, EVP of Sales and Marketing at Wind up Entertainment and a senior executive at MTV Networks, Warner Music Group and The Orchard.
Between spoonfuls of poutine, Hazan exclaimed, “I'm especially looking forward to bringing the new Midem experience to industry people who want to connect and close deals with the leading music companies and executives from around the world.”
At Midem, Mathew Daniel, a music licensing pioneer and a key player in the Chinese market, will give a keynote address on developments in the Chinese music market.
