Motown Records President Ethiopia Habtemariam has appointed Marc Byers to the newly created position of General Manager. He will oversee the label’s day-to-day operations and work closely with Habtemariam to design and execute the label’s business strategy and development.
Byers is based in the Capitol Tower.
Byers is the Founder and Co-CEO of Rockstar Entertainment, which comprised music management, marketing and a publishing venture with Sony/ATV. Throughout his career, Byers has worked with Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Usher and others as well as provided consulting services to Pepsi and BuzzFeed.
He produced the 2012 feature film Black November and helped create Philly360.com through his consultation agreement with Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp.
Habtemariam said Byers’ “level of experience, impact and proven results in our business is undeniable. Marc is extremely passionate and dedicated.”
Byers said he has always been inspired by Berry Gordy as an entrepreneur. “I’ll do my best to uphold the Motown standard that continues to inspire young people, just as I was,” Byers said while banging out Barrett Strong’s “Money” on the Studio B grand piano.
