Ariana Grande has set a new U.K. chart record for the most-streamed song in one week with “7 Rings” (Island), driving it straight in at #1 on the Official Singles Chart. Over on albums, The Greatest Showman matches a record set by The Beatles.
“7 Rings” tallied 16.9m streams and 15k downloads, which is Ariana's biggest opening week for a single in Blighty. With 126k combined sales, the track tops the 113k “Problem” f/Iggy Azalea sold first week in 2014; it's her fourth U.K. #1.
Ava Max with “Sweet But Psycho” (Atlantic) drops to #2 with nearly half the sales of Ariana, while Sam Smith & Normani’s “Dancing With a Stranger” (Capitol) is up one place to #3.
“Wow.” (Island) by Post Malone is up to #4 and Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man’s “Giant” (Columbia) moves up two places to #5.
A new remix of “Gun Lean” from Russ (Virgin EMI) sees the track rocket 25 places to #9, and Mabel is new at #11 with “Don’t Call Me Up” (Polydor).
On the Official Albums Chart, The Greatest Showman (Atlantic) continues to sell strong at #1, outperforming George Ezra’s Staying at Tamara’s (Columbia) by 2:1.
The cast recording now matches the chart performance of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which logged 28 non-consecutive weeks at the summit between 1967 and 1968.
Dodie leads a pack of nine new Top 40 entries with third EP, Human (Ministry of Sound), ending the week at #5—her highest chart position yet.
Less than 200 combined sales behind is James Blake, who also achieves a personal best at #6 with Assume Form (Polydor). The 12th album from British rock band Thunder, Please Remain Seated (BMG), debuts at #8.
Future’s Future Hndrxx Presents: The Wizrd (RCA) charts at #16, and Scottish indie rockers The Twilight Sad’s It Won’t Be Like This All The Time (Rock Action) is #17. The debut studio album from Maggie Rogers, Heard It in a Past Life (Polydor), starts at #26, ahead of Sharon Van Etten’s Remind Me Tomorrow (Jagjaguwar) at #30.
