Weezer dropped a surprise album Wednesday night ahead of the Crush-managed band’s upcoming official release, The Black Album. Rivers Cuomo and his merry men have titled the all-covers longplayer The Teal Album—adding a frisky new color to their heretofore conservative title palate—Blue, Green Red, White and Black. And guess what? The Teal Album has gone straight to #1 at iTunes.

Weezer is the rock equivalent of Tom Brady and the Patriots: They’ve been around seemingly forever (first hit “Buddy Holly” came out way back in 1994, while Brady was drafted by the Pats in 2000), but you can never count them out or sell them short. Going to #1 Alternative with a Toto cover? No problem.

Here’s what they posted Wednesday night on Instagram (which has a non-functioning embed function at the moment; otherwise we would’ve grabbed it):

“Having trouble being patient until The Black Album? We got you covered (literally). The Teal Album is out now - the ultimate cover song collection with TOTO, @tearsforfearsmusic, @eurythmicsmusic, @officialaha, The Turtles, @blacksabbath, @jefflynneselo, @officialtlc, @michaeljackson & Ben E. King

“The first place to buy the Teal CD (if that’s your thing) at Weezer.com. 500 ultra-limited teal velcro wallets avail now for pre-order - first 100 orders come with real signed dollar bills!

“More fun to come between now and Black Friday (3/1).”

Can’t wait to find out what they do with the likes of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Take on Me,” “No Scrubs,” “Happy Together,” “Billie Jean” or “Paranoid”? Go straight to your favorite provider and find out.
