Commissioned by the RIAA, a new report from NYU Steinhardt Music Business Program Director Larry Miller offers a detailed examination of how the modern record label operates in the streaming era, with some insight from top biz players. RIAA CEO Mitch Glazier praised the report and its conclusions in this piece, and the org launched this site to carry it forward.
How record labels function in the existing climate gets put under a microscope. The report, according to Miller, "examines this evolution by distilling nearly 50 conversations with executives from across the U.S. recorded music business."
Among the executives offering their expertise: UMG's Michele Anthony, Republic's Monte Lipman and Jim Roppo, Capitol's Michelle Jubelirer and Ashley Newton, Arista's David Massey, Columbia's Justin Eshak, RCA's John Fleckenstein and Tunji Balogun and The Orchard's Brad Navin.
