HE'S THEIR GUY

Guy Moot will succeed Jon Platt as CEO and Co-Chair of Warner/Chappell, and COO Carianne Marshall is adding Co-Chair to her responsibilities.

The Moot deal continues a vigorous game of musical chairs at the major pubcos; Marty Bandier will of course step down as SATV chief in March, and his mentee Platt (who stepped down as W/C chief at year’s end) will assume that post.

In a memo to staff, WMG chief Steve Cooper wrote “This leadership duo will be unlike any other in music publishing, and help us emphasize our unique approach at Warner/Chappell. It will give us real creative and commercial advantages as we sign and develop a new generation of world-class hit-makers, open up fresh opportunities for our legendary catalog, and mentor a winning team.

“Guy and Carianne are inspiring, innovative execs who have championed many of the world’s greatest songwriters, while being passionate advocates for the value of music and proponents of new technology. They bring beautifully complementary talents and experiences to the Warner/Chappell culture—with Guy’s visionary A&R strength backed by outstanding global operational expertise, and Carianne’s entrepreneurial business savvy coupled with impeccable creative instincts.”

The well-liked, well-traveled Brit—who’s been President of Worldwide Creative at Sony/ATV since 2017, brings his own global A&R sensibility to the post.

Moot started his career in 1984 with A&R roles at ATV Music and Chrysalis Records, joining SBK Music Publishing in 1987 when he first worked with Bandier. They were together at EMI and ultimately at SATV; Marty has described him as one of the global industry’s “A&R executive superstars.”

During his time at the helm of Sony/ATV and EMI, Moot signed Lana Del Rey, Mark Ronson, Arcade Fire, StarGate, Sia, Paul Epworth and others plus overseen the signings of Ed Sheeran, Drake, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, Charli XCX and others.

Marshall, who was brought in by Platt after serving as a partner at SONGS (which sold to Kobalt for a rumored $160m), will undoubtedly prove invaluable as Moot gets his regime underway.
