K-Pop was popping like a champagne cork on New Year's Eve. SoundCloud is reporting that "Promise," the debut solo single from BTS member Jimin—dropped as an exclusive on the service just before the ball dropped—broke the platform's record for most streams in 24 hours with 8.5m.
South Korea was the #1 country driving the streaming binge, followed by the U.S., Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan. The BTS kids, in case you had any doubt, are huge; in August, the group became the first K-Pop outfit to score a U.S. #1 album with their Bighit/Columbia set Love Yourself: Tear.
"Promise" spent 48 hours at #1 on SoundCloud's Top 50 and New & Hot charts and has racked up 15m streams RTD. What will happen if/when its exclusivity window closes and it goes wide? Stay tuned.
